by nc posted 07/09/2010 Kissimmee, FL… The 11U Wayland Blazers proved to the nation that they belonged competing for a National Championship. During the first set of pool play games, the Blazers swung their way right into the Diamond bracket to be amongst the top 16 teams in the country.
The Blazers had their talents pushed to the test with a week of tough games scheduled. However, the Blazers showed that their talents exceeded most of the competition by defeating respectable southern teams from Jacksonville, Tampa Bay (twice), Port St. Lucie, and an international team from Columbia. The Blazers showed off their advanced skills through fantastic pitching, timely hitting, solid defense, multiple pick-offs, drag bunts, and sophisticated coaching to earn the #8 seed entering the single elimination round.
Stellar pitching combined with excellent defense and line drives at the plate helped the Blazers defeat Tampa Bay for the 2
nd time to get past the first round of elimination. The Blazers ran out of bullets in the 2
nd round of elimination when the #1 seed eliminated them. The Blazers finished the week with a 5-3 record, and placed 8
th overall in the National Tournament, which earned them medals.
Competing and earning medals at the National Championship was the culmination of the 11U Blazers’ season. The Blazers finished their season with an overall outstanding record of 31-8. The Blazers may be #8 in the country, but they are #1 in our hearts.
